Expertly handcrafted by Wedgwood artisans, this first limited-edition collection features unproduced cups and saucers from celebrated pottery doyenne Lucie Rie and a series of mugs inspired by fifth-century Greek pieces selected from designer Jonathan Anderson\u2019s
personal collection.<\/p>\n
Each Lucie Rie gift box will enclose a reproduction of Lucie Rie\u2019s letter to Wedgwood asking for the return of her design samples in addition to an original letter from Anderson discussing his personal inspirations.<\/p>\n

He was born in Northern Ireland and is the founder
of JW Anderson.<\/p>\n
Anderson is known for his eponymous label and for being creative director of Spanish luxury house Loewe.<\/p>\n
He has been the creative director of Christian Dior since 2025.<\/p>\n

In 1964, Lucie Rie \u2013 renowned for her use of sgraffito, her purposeful imperfections, and the elegance of her functionalist designs – designed teacups and saucers for Wedgwood that were ultimately never produced.<\/p>\n
But now, Jonathan Anderson, Wedgwood and the artist\u2019s estate have come together to bring these pieces to
the world for the first time.<\/p>\n

for craftsmanship \u2013 a nod to the future sensibilities of our brand,\u201d says Wedgwood Creative Director Emma Glynn.<\/p>\n

The Lucie Rie pieces \u2013 coloured in Jasper blue with white inlays \u2013 features a teacup and saucer, alongside a coffee cup and saucer. Crafted from Jasperware, each piece is formed by hand, then high-fired to create a matte, tactile finish.<\/p>\n
JW Anderson x Wedgwood also present a series of mugs in three striking pairings: Blue\/Saxon Blue, Chocolate Brown\/Black, and Canary Yellow\/Mimosa Yellow.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to honour a collaboration she always hoped would happen. What\u2019s truly remarkable is that Wedgwood has now realised these designs in the way she envisioned them,\u201d says Jonathan Anderson.<\/p>\n
\u201cLucie Rie is one of the greatest potters of the twentieth century. I\u2019ve been collecting her work for many years, and I think she would be thrilled to see these pieces finally brought to life, especially in this charitable context.\u201d<\/p>\n
The proceeds from the collaboration will support the newly formed Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, which aims for long-term digitisation and preservation of archival material. A grant-making scheme will also be established in order to promote academic and creative scholarships.<\/p>\n

Wedgwood has a deserved reputation for exceptional craftsmanship. It is home to experienced artisans who execute their handcraft with incredible deftness and care, employing a range of timeless and time-tested techniques. At the heart of this process is a technique called turning, a perfect marriage of human and machine.<\/p>\n
The moulded mug pieces, for example, are fitted into the turning machine and shaped by hand. The craftsperson then also applies the ribbed effect by hand. The process is very similar for Lucie Rie\u2019s pieces, the clay moulded and dried until \u2018leather hard\u2019 and then painstakingly trimmed to size and smoothed to a beautiful finish on the turning machine.<\/p>\n
